*Research that directly addresses the livelihoods and progress of our people by initiating and encouraging studies that are directly in tune with their concerns.

*A reproducable model for scientific research that new generations of researchers are able to emulate.

*An increased public confidence in local research.

*Local research that is widely disseminated.

*Experienced national researchers with indigenous knowledge who are better able to probe, understand, and avoid external misunderstandings, produce more effective solutions for development issues.
